“It’s through vulnerability that human beings create connections”
It’s no secret that we were looking forward to 2020, hoping for a year filled with hope, promise, success, happiness and a flurry of other adjectives. So we entered this year with a little spring in our step. Well, that came to a screeching halt when news about the Covid-19 pandemic broke and economies worldwide shut down.
For the last few months, we have been surrounded by negative news, businesses closing down, people living in fear, people dying and despite the growing Covid-19 infection rate and associated deaths, there are beliefs that the pandemic is a hoax and a conspiracy theory.
Of course, this could result in hours of debate on a zoom meeting or “house party” which brings us to the task of how do we as parents explain this to our children?
It turns out the children of this nation are far more adaptable and resilient than we are. We can definitely learn from them and how important change and adapting to change is. Too often we become complacent and resistant to change as well as new ideas. This results in us getting stuck in a negative spiral.
Well, Covid-19 has certainly taught us all a very important lesson about change. Nobody had a choice. We all had to go into lockdown and figure out ways to either keep working or survive without work. We have had to take on some new roles, new roles such as learning to operate everything online and suddenly having to become comfortable with online meetings. (In some cases, we can even add teaching to our list of accolades now)
Lockdown for the staff at TLOK has not been one of spring-cleaning, playing 30 seconds, building puzzles, trying out new recipes etc. We are in the fortunate position that we are able to continue serving our clients remotely.
We have worked tirelessly through lockdown and are grateful that we could continue to assist our clients to succeed, help them solve their problems by educating and empowering them, even if it was just to point them in the right direction. We remain committed to our clients keeping in mind that if our clients don’t succeed, neither do we.
Our Government stepped up and made numerous relief measure available to businesses and employees. It’s no secret that trying to successfully apply for these relief measures has been frustrating at the best of times. Nobody is to blame. These systems were designed in a matter of weeks and have had to be tweaked as and when issues arose.
We for one, hope that the May TERS applications will go without a hitch, for the sake of our clients as well as our sanity.
The key throughout this whole pandemic however, is to remain positive! It is hard at times but it is the best way to move forward.
Which brings us to this fitting quote by Neil Blumenthal:
“It’s through vulnerability that human beings create connections. The more vulnerable we can be with one another, the more that we’ll trust one another and the more we’ll be able to collaborate effectively.”
